He believed Princeton not only gave him a good education but that it was a lot of fun. He was a member of Triangle and Tower Club, for which he recruited jazz bands for Houseparties. After working at Hanover Trust Co. he became a fund-raiser for one of New York's neighborhood houses. As war clouds thickened Fred enlisted in the Naval Reserve and served in the Pacific until service-connected deafness forced him into a shore job
