Ethel
Mary Allen
- "Our community was saddened Saturday morning on learning
of the death of Miss Ethel Allen, which occurred during the night at
her home in Burke Center. Ethel was a beautiful young lady, loved by
all
who knew her, the youngest daughter of Mr. & Mrs. Wilbur Allen.
She was a graduate of Franklin Academy, year 1910, and from the
training class
in 1911, after which she taught school three years, then entered the
Albany Hospital, where she was studying to be a trained nurse. She
won
many friends wherever she went by her sunny disposition and pleasing
manner.
At Christmas time she came home for her holidays and was not feeling
well. She had been nursing a Typhoid Fever patient for several weeks
and in her weak condition contracted the disease. All that loving
hands
and skillful care could do was done for her but no avail and her
bright
young life went out Friday night. The sympathy of the entire
community
is extended to the bereaved family. Ethel was a member of the
Presbyterian Church and a worker in all its different branches, where
she will be greatly missed. She is survived by her parents, three
brothers, John, Kenneth, and Leslie of Toronto, Canada and two
sisters
Anna of Burke, and Mrs. Wilson of Bradford, Vt. The funeral was
held on Monday from the Presbyterian Church, Rev. J. Bamford,
Officiating."
