Oliver C. Everett - "Oliver C. Everett died at his late residence at about eight o'clock last Saturday evening of diphtheria, aged 36 years. He was not confined to his house until the Tuesday before, and nothing serious was apprehended until Thursday morning. Everything that medical skill could devise was done for him, but to no avail. It is a sudden and hard blow to the whole community. Mr. Everett came to Burke from Schhyler Falls in 1879 and entered into partnership with his brother, O.M. Everett, in the mercantile business, in which they continued up to time of his death. About two years ago he was appointed postmaster, and filled his office very acceptably. Thoroughly upright in all his dealings, he had won the respect and esteem of all. He was married in 1880, to Anna, daughter of the late John McKenzie and leaves a devoted wife, and three small children to mourn the sudden death of a true-hearted and affectionate husband and father."
