Elizabeth
McKenzie Fraser
- "The passing to the great beyond of Mrs. Elizabeth
Fraser on Tuesday evening, July 21, at her home on Covington
Hill
again plunges our community into sadness as she was a gracious and
noble woman, whom all loved and admired for her beauty of character
and faith in her Master which grew richer and fuller with the
advancing of
the years. Mrs. Fraser’s
maiden name was Elizabeth McKenzie, daughter of
the late John and Ann McKenzie of Burke. She was born in Constable
on November 10, 1862 moving later with her parents to Burke where she
spent
her girlhood days. In the year 1887 she was united in marriage to
Reverend William Fraser and they resided at Champlain, New York where
Mr. Fraser served a pastorate of 19 years. His death occurred at the
above place a number of years ago. Then Mrs. Fraser and family moved
to town where they have since resided. Deceased has been in ill
health since February. At times there seemed to be improvement in
her condition and new hope was taken on that she might be spared a
few years longer to her family. Everything possible was done to ease
her suffering. She was a devoted member of the Presbyterian Church
in this town, was honorary President of the Champlain Presbyterial
Society having filled this post for a number of years past. Her
whole heart was centered in Christian and religious organizations and
she must have passed away to the "Home over There" with the
full assurance of faith that "He who doeth all things well"
would guide her to other shore. She leaves to mourn her death, five
daughters namely, Miss Isabella Fraser, who resides
with her mother, Mrs. Charles Smallman of St. Agens, P.Q., Miss
Loraine Fraser of Rockville Center, Alice of Freeport, L.I. and Jean
of Saranac Lake also two sons, Reverend Frederick Fraser of Oneonta,
New York, and William a student of LaFayette College to whom the
sympathy of our town people is extended in their bereavement. The
funeral
services were held at the Presbyterian Church on Friday afternoon
at 2 o'clock after which remains were laid to rest beside her husband
in Elmwood Cemetery. The Reverend W.C. Taylor of Mooers, New York
officiating owing to the absence of the regular pastor, Reverend John
Gardner."
